Versailles - Sun

Sun 26th Oct 2014

Lazy morning as I think we were both mentally exhausted from yesterday! Walked out of the campsite and down the Ave de Paris! Towards the Palace of Versailles. Did a self guided walking tour that took us via La Cour des Senteurs which is the area that they make perfumes and grew rare plant varieties to create the scent. Later we entered the palace gardens that are normally free but today we paid as they had the fountains going  and piped classical music playing in sync with the water. It was mesmerising and felt we could have stayed all day. We passed 100's of tourists queuing to go on the palace - thankfully that wasn't on our list. The gardens were enormous and they had an interesting display on how they restore the fountains using the original techniques with lead. Walked back in the dark and must have covered at least 10km! Paris on the train tomorrow! But I don't think we are finished with Versailles yet. What an adventure!!
