Jungfrau Eiger Trail - Tue

Tues 14th Oct 2014
Happy Birthday Jess- great day to go back to work!!!!
Very cold this morning but at least it's stopped raining. Packed a picnic and walked to Lautenbrunnen train station where we noticed a fresh sprinkling of snow on the mountain tops from last night. Bought all the train /cable car tickets we needed for today's hike (135 Swiss Francs!!$155) train up to Kleine Scheidegg then changed trains to Eigergletscher. Got off here (see pic of ice on the table) and started our hike that took us right past (and very close) to the North Face of The Eiger!) absolutely amazing. Fairly steep but easy walk down to Kleine Scheidegg then hiked on to Männlichen. The views and scenery were different again to all our other hikes. We had to rush a bit as we were not sure if the last cable car down to Wengen (from Männlichen) was at 16.20 or 17.10. It turned out it was 17.10 so when we arrived we had time to relax and take it all in. Think at this point it could possibly be the best view so far! Got on the cable car down to Wengen where we found The Alpenrose Hotel that John & Margaret (David's parents) had stayed at many many  Years ago! Then it was down on the train to Lautenbrunnen and the 45min walk back to Priscilla (that walk seems to get longer each time we have done it!) Cold again when we got back so had a hot meal and settled down for the evening. Another very full and rewarding day.
