Happy Birthday Moi - Fri

Fri 24th Oct 4014

Slept surprisingly well for an Aires near a busy road. Didn't set off until 10am. Beautiful sunny day and changed our route slightly to use the smaller roads and not the toll roads (as there is No Rush)! Headed past Versoul then stopped in a church car park in the village of Fayl-Billot and bought bread and cakes to go with our coffee. Headed then past a beautiful walled town called Langres. Now driving through undulating arable land and small villages. It is quiet nice to see quaint old stone buildings after a month in Switzerland with the timber homes even though they were lovely.  Drove then through Chaumont then stopped for lunch in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises where there was a Charles De Gaulle Memorial. Back on the road and headed for Troyes. Past here we realised we weren't going to make it to the next campsite planned (St.Cheron just south of Paris)  so started looking for somewhere to park up for the night as it was getting dark and David had been driving all day. Got fuel and gas (David said the gas was my birthday pressie as I always worry we are going to run out! Even though we still had at least one full tank!) thought we weren't going to find anywhere then just past Fontainebleau in a small very posh looking village - Arbonne la Forét we found a lovely restaurant called Le Petit Corne Biche (the small deer horn - large forests in this area). And would you believe they had a parking area opposite that they said we could park in overnight! Blue dot on the map in the picture. The pin on the map is the campsite we will go to tomorrow so we can explore and go into Paris on the train. We were so lucky to find something so perfect for my birthday meal. We had wild rabbit pâté with mango sauce, goats cheese with salmon and mint followed by éntrecote and confit lamb. All washed down with a great bottle of red (not a 3 euro bottle from Lidl's!) Chatted to a young Swiss couple who were in the area for  a few days to do some bouldering. It certainly will be a birthday to remember.
Cannot believe we were in Switzerland yesterday and now just south of Paris!!!!
