St Ives to Nanjizal Bay

Wed 29th July 2015

After breakfast in the campsite cafe we set off on our "severe" walk-turned out to be not as severe as Hartland quay to Bude! It was over very stoney and rocky terrain which certainly slowed us up and made for a very tiring day. Weather was perfect and again scenery was wonderful. Quite a busy stretch of path until after lunch. Walked of the path slightly to Zennor where we looked around the church and had a couple of pints in the Tinners Arms. Walked onto Treen passing Cove Cottage at Lean Cove-the best location for a house we have seen so far. It has been used in film and TV. Asked at The Gurnards Head if we could pitch our tent behind their beer Garden as it was now nearly 7pm. They said yes so we had a most pleasant evening downing 8 pints between us and enjoying a gourmet meal. A few pretentious foodies in the place whose pickiness made us laugh. Staff were great too.
Thurs
Great sleep and a fancy breakfast not your run of the mill English breakfast here. Smoked kippers for David-his Dad's favourite and all homemade/free range/organic. Hence the final bill for last night and breakfast came to £110 but this is still cheaper than a B&B with all that food. Another good days walk with greater weather and after Pendeen Watch lighthouse the ground became less rocky. We saw a few rock climbers- the whole area has massive granite outcrops some u would think were man made monuments. After Pendeen we entered Poldark country. Many old mine shafts and chimneys. Dark clouds and rain would have given it more of a true feel of the hard and dangerous lives these miners and their families would have gone through. After rounding Cape Cornwall we were ready to stop for the night and about 6.30pm we found the perfect spot at Porth Nanven to wild camp. A photographer we spoke to was waiting for low tide and sunset to photo "dinosaur egg shaped rocks" that are found here. We cooked up our packet rice and soup for dinner then cups of Horlicks - bit different from last night! What a location!
Fri
Slept well with no wind outside thankfully but a bit chilly - thermal tops on. A perfect morning and such a wonderful spot we chilled out here until gone 12pm-heaven. Finally packed away and set off for Sennen Cove. Some stunning beaches and as good as Oz! Shame the weather isn't as reliable. Stopped at The Old Success Inn for lunch then headed to Lands End. Had a pint here then after some very narrow and very close to the cuff edge paths we found another perfect spot for a wild camp at Nanjizal Bay. Had snacks for dinner while watching photographers shoot the sunset. Magical.

Path was very rocky and got much worse than this

Bit like an assault course and some rock climbing was involved!
