Paris - Mon

Mon 27th Oct 2014
Packed a picnic and walked the 5mins to the train station. It was cold but could tell the weather was going to be good- how lucky are we! Got a return ticket to Champ de Mars (Tour Eiffel) for 6.90euro each. Was surprised that the train was above ground the whole time right to the Eiffel Tower. Pretty excited when we saw it and I got a bit emotional - it certainly leaves up to your expectations. Huge crowds and queues even just to walk up and this is nearly November! Even though the cost was very reasonable we didn't want to waste a sunny day by queuing for hours. Spent some time (along with hundreds of others!) taking the classic photos before heading over the bridge to Palais de Chaillot where we sat and had our coffee while taking in the tower. Headed up then to The Arc de Triomphe and was again pleasantly surprised - what a great monument and loved the huge French flag fluttering under it. Had a beer close by in a café(excuse to use the loo!) we stood watching in awe the many lanes of traffic going around (glad it wasn't us in Priscilla!) we then walked the whole length of The Champs Élysées with it's many designer shops and even car dealers had very flash shops (David picked out his new Peugeot Onyx - should have it paid off in about 30years time!) stopped at one of the small parks off the Champs Élysées for our soup and baguette before carrying on past Place de La Concorde and through the park towards the Louvre which was originally the royal palace. Again blown away with the building and the whole size of it all and the fantastic architecture. It was dark by now so returned along the banks of The Seine. Many tourist boats going up and down and were surprised at the amount of barges moored that look like they are lived on. Think we found the bridge that our Jess and Edward put a padlock on (this is to be confirmed as I think that was in Italy?!) returned to the Eiffel Tower where every hour for 5mins there was a light show. Sat on a floating bar underneath the Tower with a bottle of red enjoying the romance if it all - well this is Paris! Got to the train station to find that our return tickets had been validated wrong and wouldn't let us through  the barrier- so instead of buying another ticket we jumped over the barrier !!!!!!! How old are we!!!!!!! Eventually got back to Priscilla  at 10.30pm having been out for 12 hours! Day off tomorrow we think (because we can). Agree with everyone now when they say you must see Paris - BEAUTIFUL.
