Thun - Tues

Tues 21st Oct 2014

Kept our pitch at Camping Alpenblick, emptied the waste and filled up with water and went off for the day to Thun. Great drive along Lake Thunesee and through some amazing tunnels cut out off the rock face with some serious overhangs!! Even though it poured with rain all night we were again lucky with some sun but the skies did look ominous. After some trouble parking! We walked through the lovely old part of Thun and came to The Schadau Castle which dates back to 1860. Can you see the bride and groom on the balcony in the photo? We had a chat with the photograph who told us most couples have their wedding photos taken 2 weeks after the event! Less stress but it's not on the day is it!!!! Or in the location!!!!!!! It was a beautiful castle and we went inside and we were able to look around. The staircase was intricately carved out of solid stone. Walked around the lovely gardens and visited a 16th century church (it's been awhile since we've been in a church!) went over a couple of enclosed timber bridges that are used as sulce gates. They were so pretty as were covered in colourful flowers. Had lunch on the river (only our second meal out in Switzerland! It was good) before walking up to the 13th century castle of Thun but unfortunately didn't have time to go in as we were on a metered parking spot. Called into Lidl's on the way back to our campsite. Got chatting to new Swiss neighbours who thankfully informed us that our planned route for tomorrow (to Zermatt) will be closed to traffic!!!!!! As there is 1 meter of snow forecast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we will decide in the morning an alternative route!
