Day 44 Hotel Tues

Tues 27 the May 2014
Pilly wanted breakfast!

Weeding & feeding

Me showing David how to use the coffee machine. Alan & Hetty drove to Antequera to do some shopping and get a quote on having the car door repaired (Alan knocked it a while back) they took Andy & Judy and dropped them off to do some sightseeing.

He's worn out!!! Bless him.

We joined the guests for dinner and enjoyed duck with cous cous

Day 46 Hotel Thurs-Pastelero again

Thursday 29th May 2014

David finally finished painting the courtyard and after breakfast duties I carried on varnishing the balcony windows and doors. Later on Alan, Judy, Hetty, David & I walked to Pastelero again for a meal.
Andy with David in the courtyard before our walk.

Judy & I in the courtyard.

Off we go - Hetty thought it would be a great idea to cut the corner off and walk through the fields instead!!!!!

Having a rest - make hay while the sun suns!

Hetty suffers with back problems so was resting. We should have stayed on the road!

We got a bit lost so decided  to head back to the road as we were late (Alan was meeting us at the restaurant).

We passed an old goat farm and when we arrived back on the road who did we find but Alan! He had been driving around trying to find us! So we all piled into the car and drove the rest of the way!

We had another lovely meal and Andy & Judy insisted they pay for us all as we have looked after them so well. Very nice of them.

Day 45 - Hotel Wed

Wed 28th May 2014

Not much to report today. I did the usual housekeeping duties and some cleaning around the hotel.

After lunch I joined the guests (Andy & Judy) on a 2km walk to the end of the road and then back 2km.

The goats were out and about - they all have bells around their necks - it is a lovely sound and we can normally always hear them from the hotel.

There are a mule and a donkey on this road and they are always tied up - in the sun! So we stopped and gave them water (think I may have to do this everyday now!!!???)

After another lovely meal cooked by Alan this time, we all played Phase 10 card game, they all enjoyed it.

Day 43 - Hotel Monday

Monday 26th May 2014
Me on the terrace clearing up after the guests breakfast. Alan has put many offers on the internet with booking agents etc as there is only 2 rooms booked for next week and NOTHING!!!! after that! Things are really bad. They have had this situation before and bookings normally pick up.

David is now painting all the pillars in the courtyard.

Kumquat tree

Me varnishing external doors and windows (lots of them)

He's worn out!

Alan siphoning fermented  Kombucha. They drink this everyday - it's made with  tea and a live culture (swarm) :

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that has been around for many centuries and originated in China, being used as an elixir of health.  The high concentration of b-vitamins,digestive enzymes and glucaric acid in kombucha are credited with a variety of health effects, including detoxification, improved digestion, increased liver function and more. Many Kombucha drinkers also report increased energy from regular consumption. Some studies have even shown that compounds like glucaric acid can help prevent cancer, though the evidence on this is limited.Interestingly, President Reagan reportedly drank kombucha daily as part of his regimen to battle stomach cancer when he was diagnosed in 1987 (He died in 2004 of old age).

At about 6 o'clock David and I took Judy & Alan on the walk to Pastelero. It took about one and a half hours and went  via the long steep road through Fuenta Amarga. We went to the same restaurant as last Monday as it was so good (there are only 2 restaurants and no shops).

Alan & Hetty drove to Pastelero to meet us for the meal. Andy is a character and used to play in a band in Glasgow - had us in fits of laughter. The 4 of them treated David & I to our meal - very nice of them.

The Spanish couple who own the restaurant watch Masterchef everyday and Hetty says their food has improved 100%. This was bought out at the end of the meal - free, together with , free liquors.

The restaurant owners at the back. They know Alan & Hetty have a hotel and send guests (when they can) so they really have been trying hard to impress us - and they have. Glad we didn't have to walk back - all piled in Alan's car.

Day 42 Hotel Sunday

Sunday 25th May 2014
Had a great Skype with our beautiful daughter Jess.

After finishing jobs we relaxed. David caught up on emails and I did some reading.

After lunch David & I took the new guests Andy & Judy on a short loop walk (about 45mins) they loved it.

We joined the guests on the terrace for dinner. Hetty had made a smoked salmon salad followed by Rosado (fish) in a mustard sauce with risotto. We were all in the mood to watch a movie so watched a Clive Owen one called Blood Ties - not bad.

Day 41-Hotel Saturday

Sat. 24th May 2014
Had a lovely sleep in as guests not arriving until this afternoon. I cleaned our pool while David cleaned the hotel pool. David was like the show 60 min makeover trying to finish some painting in the courtyard before the next guests arrived.

Pilly the cat upstairs on the landing of the hotel. The guests arrived in a taxi as they want a relaxing holiday and do not want to go anywhere. They are a couple from Glasgow (Andy & Judy) think David will get on with Andy as he is a bricklayer.

After dinner we all watched the champions league final - great!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 40 - Hotel - A day in Casares & evening in Estepona

Friday 23rd May 2014
Jeremy & Kathy's last breakfast (think they will be back as they loved it). Renee came for coffee then in the afternoon Alan Hetty David & I went out for the rest of the day as no guests checking in until tomorrow.

Off in Alan's car - headed for Casares. We took the coast road (motorway) and went past Malaga with all it's golf resorts and many high rise apartment blocks that are empty and have never been finished! The "crisis" is quite bad here in Spain. We then passed Marbella and Estepona then headed inland to Casares.
Cannot believe we are so close to Gibraltar! Most people have told us not to bother going as it is full of English and monkeys!!!!!! I think we may go as we would like to say we have been there and also to climb "the rock".

It was views like this on one side of the road and on the other it was the Mediterranean sea and very built up.

Nearly to Casares - it is the white village on the hill at about 11 o'clock.

Casares

We parked in an underground free car park then came up and out into the town
We walked up to the church and castle at the top.

This is the view from where we had a beer and roast beef sandwiches.

Alan & Hetty (don't know what she was saying!)

The whole town is built into the rock!

This one is especially for you Roger!

Very pretty views. Do not think it is a tourist destination as we didn't see any shops!

The view up here from the castle ruins was incredible. We could see the sea/wind turbines/Gibraltar and loads of Eagles & Vultures - one flock had 16 in it! Huge and amazing to watch.

Me

Hetty & Alan

Alan

The local cemetery

The Eagles and Vultures were flying up to the mountain in the distance. Alan found a chair in a little cave.

Some of the locals!

After Casares we drove back down to the coast and arrived at the harbour of Estepona. Alan & Hetty said they wouldn't come here in July or August as you cannot move.

Estepona - yes we had an Indian meal.

The food was great and was 63 Euros for all of us including drinks.

The boys

The girls. It took about 1 hour 10 mins to drive back to the hotel and got there at half midnight. Another really great day. Love when there are no guests and we get to go out!!!!
