Santa Caterina

Tues 11th March 2014

Well what a difference a day makes. Recovered from yesterdays no show we had another great walk. We met Teresa and Eduard at 9.30am in the Santa Anna Square for a coffee before heading off on a 2 and a half hour walk to Santa Caterina church up in the mountains. It was a pleasant walk not too hot but steep in places and of course the need to find the wild asparagus was important! The church which was down in a kind of oasis, was first established by 3 monks back in 1392 and then extended in the 17th and 18th centuries, and once a year on the 25th of Nov hundreds of people come up to the church and camp, sing, dance and eat in celebration of St Catherine, Teresa and Edward gave us a demonstration of the La Sardana dance. Jane and Laura then drove up the old dirt road with a lovely picnic lunch with cous cous, egg sausage, Spanish omelette, bread, cheese and ham. With of course wine and beer, Jo was very good and had water and coffee, but as Eduard had already opened a couple of bottles of beer I couldn’t say no could I !!!!! Did we really say never again? Collected a few Almonds off the ground and chewed on wild Rosemary as we walked as apparently it’s good for any rheumatic aches and pains, (not that we have any at the moment ). We all managed to get in Edwards car to get back to L’Estartit, and spent the rest of the afternoon reading our books, before heading out for another walk down to the Marina and along the front, (as if we hadn’t walked enough today !)
