What a day of ups and
downs. The day began with final load up of Priscilla, a quick clean of the
apartment and then walked into the square to say our goodbyes to Teresa and
Eduard at their shop. They presented us with sweat shirts with the shop logo on
for each of us ( I mentioned them when we were out walking the other day as
they wear theirs all the time and look good , now we have two, that’s the sort
of people they are, very generous ). Also said our goodbyes to Laura, she is
suffering with her back (as you can see in her face ) and I have every sympathy
for her, but at least she knows from me that there is light at the end of the
tunnel. Then we drove to Jane’s office to say goodbye to her which was hard and
a few tears were shed. She also has been wonderful to us, nothing was a problem
and was always there to help we can’t thank her enough also. Drove to Torroella
and filled up with diesel and pumped the tyres up. Went to the Orange shop and
ended up buying another wireless internet device ( as our Oz one that we had
paid to be unlocked in the UK wasn’t unlocked !!!!) so we can connect to the
internet anywhere we need to. Did some shopping at the Carrefour and as we had
spent more than 30E we had the choice of 3 milks or 6 cans of beer, no contest there
of course. ( later it proved to be the right choice ).Set off to Gerona to fill
the gas bottles up with LPG, which is only sold in a limited amount of places
in Spain so needed to get it while we could. This is when the happy to be on
the road again, carefree life, happy days, we have a tank full of fuel, a tank
full of water, tyres are pumped, were pumped, suddenly all goes to shit !!!!!! First
we get lost as I have shown Jo the wrong town on the map, we end up in a dead
end!, when we finally find the right petrol station we cannot fill up with LPG
either because we’re doing something wrong or the machine is broken! (the Jury
is out on this one) the lady attendant speaks limited English and can’t get it
to work!( so it must all be her fault !!!) So off we go to find the only other
LPG selling petrol station in Gerona. What a nightmare finding this one, went
to two that we thought were right, but no, so asked a very helpful English
speaking lady at a motorhome dealers for directions, sorted, like hell, we
still got lost. Ended up going past it but unable to cross over from the other
lanes as a continuous white line ( I’ll ignore them in the future )so ended up
going closer and closer to the city and more traffic before eventually finding
a way to turn around and come at the petrol station from the right direction, hooray
we made it happy days!!! No not quite we tried to fill up again (yes we were
using our Spanish adaptor before anyone asks!!!!) we not stupid are we, well
maybe a little as it turns out. I ask the male attendant for help and he says
no this pump only for cars to fill, you’ve got to be joking how and where are
we supposed to fill these cylinders? While I tear my hair out and plan the
route back to France, Jo goes and asks a female attendant to help, which she
does in broken English, we were pressing the wrong button all along!!! (I don’t
think this was the reason for our problems at the first station as the
attendant was too!!!!!).So we get to fill up the tanks finally and can now set
off to get out of Gerona and find somewhere to stay for the night as by now it’s
getting late. Head towards Vic inland, stop off at Sant Sadurn D’Osormort in
the mountains and have a cup of tea but as there was nowhere suitable to stop
for the night decided to head for an Aire just north of Vic at Gurb. Not the
best spot to stop but its free we don’t need power and can empty our loo in the
morning. So a good choice to pick free beers as they went down well with our
pre prepared by Jane meal that was delicious and very enjoyable.Happy days are
here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What will tomorrow bring I wonder.
