Day 43 - Hotel Monday

Monday 26th May 2014
Me on the terrace clearing up after the guests breakfast. Alan has put many offers on the internet with booking agents etc as there is only 2 rooms booked for next week and NOTHING!!!! after that! Things are really bad. They have had this situation before and bookings normally pick up.

David is now painting all the pillars in the courtyard.

Kumquat tree

Me varnishing external doors and windows (lots of them)

He's worn out!

Alan siphoning fermented  Kombucha. They drink this everyday - it's made with  tea and a live culture (swarm) :

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that has been around for many centuries and originated in China, being used as an elixir of health.  The high concentration of b-vitamins,digestive enzymes and glucaric acid in kombucha are credited with a variety of health effects, including detoxification, improved digestion, increased liver function and more. Many Kombucha drinkers also report increased energy from regular consumption. Some studies have even shown that compounds like glucaric acid can help prevent cancer, though the evidence on this is limited.Interestingly, President Reagan reportedly drank kombucha daily as part of his regimen to battle stomach cancer when he was diagnosed in 1987 (He died in 2004 of old age).

At about 6 o'clock David and I took Judy & Alan on the walk to Pastelero. It took about one and a half hours and went  via the long steep road through Fuenta Amarga. We went to the same restaurant as last Monday as it was so good (there are only 2 restaurants and no shops).

Alan & Hetty drove to Pastelero to meet us for the meal. Andy is a character and used to play in a band in Glasgow - had us in fits of laughter. The 4 of them treated David & I to our meal - very nice of them.

The Spanish couple who own the restaurant watch Masterchef everyday and Hetty says their food has improved 100%. This was bought out at the end of the meal - free, together with , free liquors.

The restaurant owners at the back. They know Alan & Hetty have a hotel and send guests (when they can) so they really have been trying hard to impress us - and they have. Glad we didn't have to walk back - all piled in Alan's car.
