Day 40 - Hotel - A day in Casares & evening in Estepona

Friday 23rd May 2014
Jeremy & Kathy's last breakfast (think they will be back as they loved it). Renee came for coffee then in the afternoon Alan Hetty David & I went out for the rest of the day as no guests checking in until tomorrow.

Off in Alan's car - headed for Casares. We took the coast road (motorway) and went past Malaga with all it's golf resorts and many high rise apartment blocks that are empty and have never been finished! The "crisis" is quite bad here in Spain. We then passed Marbella and Estepona then headed inland to Casares.
Cannot believe we are so close to Gibraltar! Most people have told us not to bother going as it is full of English and monkeys!!!!!! I think we may go as we would like to say we have been there and also to climb "the rock".

It was views like this on one side of the road and on the other it was the Mediterranean sea and very built up.

Nearly to Casares - it is the white village on the hill at about 11 o'clock.

Casares

We parked in an underground free car park then came up and out into the town
We walked up to the church and castle at the top.

This is the view from where we had a beer and roast beef sandwiches.

Alan & Hetty (don't know what she was saying!)

The whole town is built into the rock!

This one is especially for you Roger!

Very pretty views. Do not think it is a tourist destination as we didn't see any shops!

The view up here from the castle ruins was incredible. We could see the sea/wind turbines/Gibraltar and loads of Eagles & Vultures - one flock had 16 in it! Huge and amazing to watch.

The local cemetery

The Eagles and Vultures were flying up to the mountain in the distance. Alan found a chair in a little cave.

Some of the locals!

After Casares we drove back down to the coast and arrived at the harbour of Estepona. Alan & Hetty said they wouldn't come here in July or August as you cannot move.

Estepona - yes we had an Indian meal.

The food was great and was 63 Euros for all of us including drinks.

The boys

The girls. It took about 1 hour 10 mins to drive back to the hotel and got there at half midnight. Another really great day. Love when there are no guests and we get to go out!!!!
