Sierra Nevada- a walk to the snow - Fri

Fri 13th June 2014

Had a great sleep as it was very quiet. After breakfast (bacon and eggs!) we headed up the mountain and it wasn't long before we came across patches of snow that were slowly melting away. We followed tracks that went right along the ski slopes and we walked under chair lifts and cable cars! Very strange seeing all this and can just imagine how busy it is in the winter when all covered with snow. We walked up to about 3000m to a satellite tracking station where we set up the gas stove and had a rest and a coffee taking in all the wonderful views. We could just about see Priscilla from the top. Coming down we took a very steep short cut to cut off a corner. It is a popular area for walkers of all ages. Arrived back down at Priscilla after about 5 hours. Had an early dinner in the car park at a ski shack. Watched a few more episodes of Breaking Bad and then off to bed as on the move again tomorrow.

See the Satellite tracking dish above David's head - well we walked up there!

We came across a few snow making machines.

The water was very fresh and very cold.

Chair lifts

Cable cars - all just left hanging there until the winter.

Happy engagement party Bec & James - we wrote in the snow for you.

Nearly there - it was VERY steep this bit.

Made it to the top.

A very well deserved cup of coffee

On the way back down

Nearly back to Priscilla

A couple of nice looking Aston Martins - being test driven (see yesterday's blog). The weather changed a bit now and we got some rain.

Opal being test driven (see yesterday's blog) this German driver told me not to take this photo! so I did!
