SAT 1st Feb
2014
Last night Jo mentioned if
we would definitely be all right to drive in Europe on our Australian driving
licences now that the authorities had cancelled my European licence. Of course
a google search on the net revealed that no we could not and would need an Australian
International Driving Licence!!!!!! So after a sleepless night and doubts that
should we actually be doing this trip, is someone trying to tell us something,
we again sorted out a plan to get this problem solved. Sheila’s next door
neighbour Natalie kindly printed off the forms we needed plus copies of our
passports and driving licences, so we could then rush to the post office (thankfully
it was open on Sat mornings) to get photos taken and send everything to
Australia by express post to hopefully get it all back by paying the extra
postage on the return post (another $200 out of the budget!). Also realised
that Jo’s driving licence runs out in May 2014 and mine Nov 2014 so we will
have to do all this again when they are due as the Internationals run out the
same time as the normal licences. HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!! Went from here with Sheila to
look at a couple of pushbikes for sale in the local paper but they were not
suitable. Did some food shopping and returned to David and Sheila’s for lunch,
sorted out our clothes and other items in the van which put us in a better mood
for the rest of the day. Took the dogs for a walk and shopped for a small
present for Molly’s (Sheila and David’s granddaughter) birthday as we are all
there tonight for dinner with all the family which should be good. I know what
the topic of conversation will be!!!!Very up and down emotions over the last
week but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end and we will learn from
our mistakes and experiences.
