Gorse Farm - Fordingbridge

Saturday 8th Feb 2014

What a stormy night! We were both concerned as we were parked under a tree, so had an unsettled night’s sleep (good job we didn’t have to get up for work in the morning!!!!) Did some emailing to Oz regarding the licences, hope to hear soon. Packed the van up ready to set off for the next pitch (it reminds me of the great feeling I had when travelling on my motorbike in America 33 years ago; nothing better than waking up, packing your kit onto the bike and setting off for a new destination ). The next pitch was only 2 minutes down the road on a small farm- Gorse Farm, which sells animal feeds (very busy), the couple are very nice and showed us where to park, on a hard surface but still needed a bit of a push to get us on as the grass is so sodden .Decided to walk the 2 miles into Fordingbridge straight away as it looked like more rain coming in ( the thermals were on today)as we needed to get cash out to pay for our stay- £24 for 2 nights. Started off down the hill and just as the heavens were about to open up a lady and her daughter who were just pulling out of their driveway gave us a lift the rest of the way!!!! We obviously don’t look like serial killers.  Had a  coffee and got some more items off the list ( including a spring loaded rail to put over the shower so we can dry towels and washing- good tip Pam and Russ)Walked back to Gorse Farm this time in dry weather. England has had the worst rain in over 250 years, you feel sorry for the people affected especially those in Somerset who seem to be copping it the worst; trouble is the ground is so sodden that the water tables are up and will flood more as soon as more rain arrives. And when will they get enough sunshine to be able to dry their houses out? But as we know the British people might moan about these things but are made of stern stuff and will always be able to carry on. Back at the van for a nice cup of tea and the joy of being able to use the laptop whilst sitting in comfort and without time restraints, as there is free WiFi in this field, enabling us to catch up with emails. Another lovely meal and great Skype with Tracy and Roger (40 degrees in Melbourne!!!!!) Another day gone, where does the time go! Have a walk sorted for tomorrow so hopefully will get some fine weather- night!!
