This morning we had
another visit from Pam and Russ who gave us some more info and useful items (Including
a list of wineries, farms etc where you can park overnight for free in France, they
expect you to buy their products but you don’t have to.) Also, you have to be
aware that you could get an on the spot fine of 150 euros if caught driving
with thongs/flip flops on. It’s all these small rules that we have to be aware
of so hopefully won’t get caught out. Took off to Morrisons Supermarket and
spent at least 2 hrs and $400 buying all the provisions for the van.150 items
all up including a lot of food items and kitchen equipment etc, Sheila’s neighbour
Natalie kindly lent us her staff discount card to get us 10% off. We both said
we felt like we were back in Oz over 25 years ago at Target in Balcatta getting
all our household items when we first arrived with nothing. Spent the afternoon
playing house in the van, we are surprised how much room we have in there. In
the evening we took Sheila and David to the West Bay pub (we walked in the
pouring rain!) for a lovely meal to thank them for all their help and also for David’s
65th birthday which is later this month. While we were in there we went and
watched two teams playing Skittles, it was pretty serious stuff, all men, (some
of who own the Palmers’ brewery) we were lucky to witness a “flopper” where all
the skittles are knocked over in one hit, then one is stood up (this wooden
skittle has a head on it and is called The Landlord) and he knocks that down too
(much harder than ten pin bowling) apparently this only happens about once
every two years!! They pay a Sticker Upper (a young boy) to put the skittles up
all night. This particular alley is over 100 years old .I’m sure Mum and Dad
will enjoy reading about this as they are experts (apparently).
