Portschatho to Charlestown

Sunday 16th Aug 2015

Ok, back on the path after some great days off. Val & Malcolm dropped is back at Porthscatho via the King Harry car ferry & St Mawes so we could see it in the sun! Set off about 12.30 in perfect weather and walked until Portloe. Arrived at the pub at 6pm with plenty of rest stops along the way. Walked on for another hour and a half and found an almost level field to camp for the night.
Mon
Just packed away on time to get away from a herd of young cows that the farmer had probably let in to chase us off-it worked. Walked to Portholland and met up with friends Mike & Liz who are at Mullion on holiday. Also met with Sean who is doing the whole path like us (who spoke highly of you Sally & Tim if you are reading this). Great catch up with Mike & Liz and drove with them back to Portloe for a pub lunch before we all set off on the path for Caerhays. We said goodbye about 5.30pm and walked on over a very strenuous stretch to wild camp at Dodman Point behind the 19th Century watch house (used during the Napoleonic Wars) bit creepy but safe from wondering livestock!
Tues
Great weather again. Great feeling when the weather is like this, packing all that we need onto our backs and anticipating what sights are in store for us today. Lovely walk via Gorren Haven for breakfast, Portmellon for a pint and wifi and into wonderful Mevagissey. Had the best haddock and mackerel baps on the harbour chatting to the local fishermen sorting their nets(David got away with the comment "thought that was a woman's job!) the big guy in the photo lost his crew man and best mate last year when his boat sank! He held him afloat as he was a non swimmer as long as he could but finally had to let him go to save his own life! Looked around the great local museum and a pint in the pub before setting off to find a wild camp spot. Took along time and a difficult walk but just before the sun went down found a great spot a Black Head- edge of the cliffs again.
Wed
We knew the rain was coming and after 3 or 4 glorious days disappointed to have to pack away in the rain. Although we have that off to a fine art now! Walked into the picturesque Charlestown which isn't the same in the pouring rain. Got into the pub at 11am for coffee beer food and wifi and out of the rain!!!

Had another ice cream! Carne beach
