Charlestown to Portwrinkle

Wed 19th Aug 2015

Well after 2 hours in the pub the rain reduced to drizzle so we carried on walking to Par. Jo was quite smug that David slipped over for the first time. Arrived in Par late afternoon - not the best place in the wet. A big history of fine china clay in this area-the best in the world and still one of Cornwall's biggest exports. Into The Par Inn to use the wifi to try to find a B&B. Easier said than done! The locals were very helpful (and also kept tossing a cricket ball around that was on the bar- don't know why!!!) managed to get into a B&B for £60, lovely couple Roy & Pat who made us a tea of tea with cake as soon as we walked in.
Thurs
Still bloody raining when Roy dropped us off on the path! Walked via a coffee stop at Polkerris to Fowey.
Luckily we went through some wooded areas so at least had something to look at in the low cloud. Fowey was lovely even in the rain but crowed as the Red Arrows were due to perform (was cancelled). Took the ferry across to Polruan and had a beer and Cornish pasty before heading out to find a campsite. Very strenuous walk and shame about the weather. Ended up having to walk a mile off the path to a campsite, After already doing 11 miles today. Ended up putting the tent up in Lansallos village car part as the campsite was full.
Fri
Still low cloud but not raining, yet! Walked another very tough section to Polperro another really pretty harbour that's used in a lot of Cornish calendars, probably even better on a sunny day.! Had a coffee and decided to walk onto Looe and get a B&B as the weather was very damp but not raining. Was diverted off one section of the path due to erosion. Very rugged and isolated coastline now. Arrived in Looe and managed to get into a new hotel right on the harbour for £70 inc breakfast. Was heavily.
Sat
All dry and clean and after a full English breekie walked the next section to Portwrinkle- the weather improved and the sun even decided to come out. Strenuous in places but easier parts in between. Had had enough for now as had been walking everyday for a week and was glad to meet cousin Linda who had come to pick us up for a couple of days rest in Plymouth/Devon. Will have to come back to Cornwall for one more days walk until we are officially in Devon.
