So much for a walk!

We packed up and went into the village of Brynrefail for breakfast and I had my first Welsh Rarebit (fancy cheese on toast with mustard) it was delicious.

We then took a different route through Snowdonia National Park and it was stunning. We stopped in Beddgelert for a look around.

The town was named after the burial place of a dog called Gelert - we found the folk tale in a book in a touristy shop. The prince left his dog Gelert to watch after his newborn baby while he went off hunting. A wolf came in to eat the baby but Gelert fought him off. When the prince returned he found the dog covered in the wolf’s blood and thought that the dog had eaten his baby so he KILLED THE DOG WITHOUT CHECKING and then found the baby and felt like a real idiot so made a shrine to his dog.

We then drove back to Llanberis to get the train up to Snowdon. There was a short space of good weather today so decided to get the train and not do the 8 hour walk up and then down. We were lucky to get tickets - they were showing online as booked out until September but we went to the ticket office on the off chance and were able to get on! We were sat right at the front so had a great view.

It took an hour to climb up to the top. This is the Llanberis Valley of the Hats cause when the train got to this point in the olden days ladies would lose their fancy hats out of the open air carriages.

As soon as we got to the top Mum took a tumble down some stairs and almost fell off the mountain.

Incredible 360 degree views - very lucky to get it so clear. Many of Mum and dads friends have mentioned they have been up there multiples times and have yet to have full visibility.

We had half an hour at the top (not quite long enough but still well worth going up on the train) and then headed back down.

As we headed down, a huge cloud came over the top - had we of been on the train half an hour later we would have seen nothing!!

We had a hour drive down to Nefyn on the Llyn peninsular and got to a campsite and pitched the tents

We popped in the Spar in town to get supplies for walking tomorrow and the lady there recommended a restaurant the next town over for a meal so we headed there.

An unbelievable case of Small World - Mum and Dad parked up near the restaurant and I walked ahead. I saw a man and woman I thought I recognised and after hearing them speak English (mostly Welsh speakers up this way) I had to say to them- do you own the bakers delight in ocean keys?? And yes! I actually worked in their other store when I was a kid and pass the bakery often as I work over the road. They were here on holiday.
We had a lovely meal at The Ship - bit expensive but lovely food. But then again after a wetherspoons everything is expensive!!

Up in the morning for a nice brekky at the campsite before heading off on the walk.

Left the car at a car park in town and started off! We had the intention of walking for 3 or 4 days on The Welsh Coast Path but the weather forecast was not on our side!

Spot the bumble bee that got in the photo.

Beautiful views and seaside towns. Plenty of people on the beaches and in the sea making the most of the weather

A big pod of seals enjoying the sun - they were all singing and you could hear them from miles away

Spot me and mum and the top of the hill. We sat on this beach for a little while and watched two grown men float out to sea on a blow up boat and struggle to get back to shore

NBST. (Never been so tired) finally got to the campsite after going half a mile too far and having to double back! All up we walked for  about 6 hours and did about 12kms. Well done Jess 🥾🥾

Mum and I put up the tents and dad got the bus back to the car (so we needn’t of carried our bloody packs the whole way!! - weather forecast changed during the day and storms started early evening). That’s a half pint of milk that mum carried clipped onto her pack all day in the sun and we bought it the other day as well and hasn’t been in a fridge and then it came with us to our next accommodation as well - Mum and Dad insist that it is fine but it smells like cheese

The rain came in so had a drink and food while sitting in the car next to the tents

Waited in the car for s break in the weather to take the tents down- there wasn’t one! 🌧

Had coffee at the nice shop near the campsite and mum recorded the two young girls speaking Welsh. Such a funny language. Wildly spoken here in North Wales as the first language.

As you can see - horrid weather the next day hence we stopped walking. At least I got one days taste for it! I can see why mum and dad like it so much. We booked an apartment in Cheltenham for three nights so we can explore The Cotswolds and drove four hours there from Wales and had dinner at a Wetherspoons.
