And then there were 3

Tues 6th Aug 2019

After a very pretty drive out of Hayfield and the Peak District we drove into Chester and met our Jess at the train station. How great it was to see her but she was full of a cold! We walked around the city walls leisurely.

Open air cinema.

We did the tour up the tower of Chester Cathedral. The tour guide was very funny

LEGO!

The Storyhouse library theatre and cinema.

In The Travelodge looking at the weather and accommodation as very bad weather is coming so I don’t think we will be in the tent. It’s also School holidays so every where is fully booked! So struggled to find anything available that wasn’t really expensive! Hoping given the bad weather that people will cancel coming on holiday and we will have more options. We have been in all the Wetherspoons for our meals as it’s so cheap.

Took Jess to the aqua duct Froncysyllte- lovely and sunny at the time and lots of canal barges going across. A 1 way Bridge so a big build up of boats the other end because they weren’t letting the other side go thru

Daveth is turning into his father sir Johnny havachat and talks to everyone but it’s good cause you learn stuff

We walked up this big hill to Dinas Bran castle ruins. This was where mum and dad had previously camped (loo with a view). Good but hard walk

Picnic when we got back down to the bottom. Mum bought all the weirdest flavour crisps cause they were about 10p cheaper. Ikey

Luckily we found a motel type accommodation late last night so we drove to it through snowdonia NP and then went for a walk. Really beautiful in the national park the scenery is stunning lovely and mountainous and green.

We drove into the nearest village (Bethesda) for fish and chips for dinner

This was the accommodation- Snowdonia Mountain Lodge and it was like a bit of a hippy place where they did yoga retreats and stuff. There were fighter jets doing training flying through the valley - very fast and loud but cool to watch

View outside our room

Drove to Caernarfon to go in the castle. Blue skies on and off but very rainy later on

Such a fun castle to look around - bit of a maze

Stopped at Llyn Padarn where they were swimming, kayaking and SUPing. Had a little picnic. Water was actually quite warm

This was a fantastic drive - pictures don’t do it justice. Was through the valley and towering mountains.

Luckily late last night we managed to book an Airbnb as it had a last minute cancellation. So lucky as it is absolutely beautiful and brand new - only has had like two other lots of people stay. It is at Cae Coch farm (red field farm). We booked for three nights as the weather is not good for the tent.

Mum and dad did loads of hand washing and then we hung it all about the house - very wizard Wong’s

Mum made pasta dish for dinner

The next day we drove all the way up to Llandudno through the National park (another great view). Drove along the front of Llandudno - dad went there as a child. Very seaside along the front and there was a pier too - would be lovely on a nicer day. We drove around Great Ormes Head which was a great scenic drive. Very blustery. Had a cuppa in a Morrison’s supermarket and shared 5 custard donuts for 50p!!!

We drove back to Caernarfon to see a movie - Blinded by the Light. Set in Luton (where mum was born)

Following day we got out our wet weather gear and walked along the lake into the town of Llanberis. Nice flat walk into the town - booked tickets to go on the train up to Snowden Peak tomorrow. Had a roast dinner in a funny local pub that was recommended to us.

Coffee stop

Abandoned slate quarry where they now hold diving courses

The walk on the other side of the lake back to our accommodation was quite hilly but very picturesque

Lots of nice doggies

Prepping Jess’ backpack.
