Raiders of the hidden tunnel- Tomar - Sat

Sat. 16th Aug 2014
Another sleep in then Skyped Mum & Jess and then John & Margaret. So glad everything is fine at home and that no one is missing us !!!!! David checked out Paul's BMW motorbike - they are away for 1 month with their tent. Walked into town - it was very hot. Looked around the local little shops and small market then had a picnic in the park next to the river. Then we went in The Church of John The Baptist in the square.  We then wondered up to the park next to the convent and below the castle walls and did a 3km walk around. Would you believe the path went close to the hidden tunnel(in David's book) that we had seen from the walls above the first day. So we decided to fight our way through the overgrown bushes and brambles! And to our joy we found the overgrown opening! We uncovered it and got a good picture but there was water on the bottom and wasn't brave or stupid enough to go right into it. It felt very Raiders of the lost Ark ish and was expecting a giant stone ball coming towards us! Have marked photo with a red arrow where we we found it. After that adventure we went to the church of Santa Maria do Olival  this is the church that the Templars built before anything else in the area and is where  29 Portuguese Master Templars were buried.  While there we saw a Baptism service. Back to Priscilla for showers and then walked back into town for a lovely Italian meal with Paul & Alison and couldn't believe when we left at midnight all the Portuguese families with children all still meandering around the streets.
