The Hills are Alive - Wed

Wed 24th Sept 2014
Happy Birthday Mum xxxxxx
Great sleep and woke to sunshine but very cold. After very hot showers in heated ablution blocks we  packed up a picnic and headed off on a walk. It started off fairly flat along the river then we climbed up and up through forests that opened up into lush green fields with amazing views. We stopped a young girl on a bike! Who was cycling up! To make sure we were on the right path. Stopped for coffee just by her house! More climbing but on the road now then came to some tunnels which had sensor lights in them so lit our way! It is amazing how the farmers can farm these steep slopes and that the cows don't fall over! After about 3 hours walking we took a steep descent  back down to the river. Passed a wood carvers shed and the same man has carved (along the river bed) many different animals out of tree stumps. After our picnic lunch We then came to a very high suspension bridge which at 153m long is one of Europe's longest! Walked up and over it (a bit scary) then followed the river back past a riding school to the campsite ( for a welcome beer) and can you believe just as we sat down the forecast rain came! How lucky are we again! We had walked for about 6 hours and felt very alive and it certainly lived up to our expectations. After David having a cuddle with a local cat we had salmon for dinner then watched the movie Pompeii (not that good) Think we will sleep well tonight.

look at the size of those cow bells!!!

there's snow up there

Suspension bridge up there!
