On top of the world - Foia - Thurs

Thurs 24th July 2014
Not a bad nights sleep but woken at 5.30am by the rooster in the filed next to us! After showers and breakfast we packed up and went to empty the toilet and the outlet was so full it was overflowing! David was nearly sick! We found the grey waste hole and used that instead! Headed off and stocked up again! At Lidl. Drove north up the coast road and turned off by Carrapatera and found many motorhomes (all nationalities) parked at a surfing beach called Bordeira. Had a coffee (because we can).
On then to Aljezur - it's cloudy today as we drive past green pine forests. This town was a bit narrow to drive through! Headed inland towards the mountains in Monchique. We past a huge stone quarry then through Monchique and up to the highest point at Foia which is an observatory and viewpoint with panoramic views across the Algarve. Stopped here and made lunch a la Priscilla. Went off on a walk   Around the mountain top which was idyllic even though I got scared when we came across some cows crossing the road! Returned to the car park and went in a very large tourist shop and David cannot believe my excessive spending habits! Got a pair of thongs and a small handbag - 7 Euros!!!!!!! Will have to stop this!! Back to Priscilla for a beer or 2 as we have decided to stop overnight here in the car park. Had another short walk up some rocks and observed a German couple kicking over a lot of the stone cairns (where people place smaller rocks on top of bigger rocks) there are a lot of them here. We couldn't understand why they were doing it so just had to ask. They said it's because they are not a natural feature! We couldn't believe their attitude! Made us cross - but are they right? and we are wrong???
All of a sudden the clouds started rolling in and we were right in them. Until the whole of the car park was blanketed in them. We positioned Priscilla for the night and got settled in and enjoyed a nice meal - we are the only ones up here on top of this mountain (900m) and now in thick cloud (fog). What an adventure !!!!!
