Island boat trip - Fri

Fri 18rh July 2014
Up and out by 10.15am! Not a bad life! Walked to the harbour to catch the ferry to the Island of Farol. There are many islands but we were told this was the best one. 45 mins away and only cost 4.80 euro each return. We could not believe the amount of people piling onto this ferry! It reminded us of those Asian ferries that you hear of on the news! That go down with no record of how many on board! So we straight away took note of where the life rings were! Every man/dog and shopping trolley was on this ferry! People live on these island so they obviously come to the main land for their shopping. A lovely trip there and then walked around to get out bearings. We then went onto the beach and had a swim! Our first swim in an ocean since we have been away. It was awesome - so crystal clear and not too cold and the sand was golden and fine. Stayed there a while then went to find a restaurant for lunch. What a view we had!!! We could have been on a Greek Island! Not a Portuguese one! We choose a whole grilled fish with salad and got chatting to a Canadian couple (he was Irish and had been in Canada for 40years). Swapped a few tales and places to go and by the time we had finished it was time to wonder back to the harbour to catch the return ferry. The wind had picked up by this stage so wasn't worth going back to the beach and getting a later ferry. It was the same on the return and we all squeezed in !!!! By the time we walked back to the campsite and had showers it was 9.30pm. A great day.
