Cordova - fantastic

Mon 31st March 2014
Lazy start to the day, warmer than we have been for awhile, and a promise of good weather for the day so no coats!!!! Ended last night about midnight in Lyn and Lindsays’ motorhome after a couple of wines, they are from Noosa but leave their motorhome in England in storage when not travelling Europe, which they have been doing for the last 7 years. Of course their motorhome was a newer model and a 2 berth so they had more room in it than ours which of course Jo had to point out on numerous occasions!!! Poor old Priscilla I hope she didn’t hear. Walked into Cordoba about 3 kms and what a city, had a great feel to it straight away, the streets are all well looked after and in the older parts the houses are painted white and a lot have beautiful flower boxes full of colourful plants, mostly geraniums. We went into a couple of the entrances of homes that were members of a patio society and liked to show off their colourful courtyards (patios). Just enjoyed walking around the streets and enjoying the warm weather. Went into the huge Mosque that was the original building before Christians overran the city and decided to build a massive church right in the middle of the old mosque, the different building designs are certainly interesting. Walked over the old bridge that crosses the very fast running river, and had our picnic lunch before carrying on our walk. Stopped in a lovely little park in the shade and enjoyed watching the world go by. Nearby was an old castle looking building that we decided we would pay out the E7 each to have a look at and were so pleased we did, we got right up the preserved original tower and had a wonderful view of the city and realised that we had some magnificent gardens to look around. These gardens were obviously of a later period than the ruins as they had a very symmetrical French design with huge conifer trees lining water features and immaculate gardens, a wonderful oasis within the city. Slowly made our way back through the city and on to the campsite, returning about 6.30, and had a lovely evening meal before another catch up with the “ neighbours “ .
