Albarracin

Our stop for the night Albarracin
Thurs 20th March 2014

Left gorgeous Morella at 9.30am this morning and set off for Teruel as we need gas (LPG) and not many places we can get it in Spain! It was a very windy but scenic road as we are avoiding the major roads as you see so much more on the little roads. We passed hundreds more wind turbines it was an incredible sight almost like something out of war of the worlds! And when we stopped the sound of them was quite eerie being out in the middle of nowhere (would love to know how much power they are producing in Spain). We then passed through an area which was all stone walls everywhere then higher up Alpine looking areas with markers on the sides of the road for snow! Didn’t realise there can be snow this far south of the Pyrenees. This was followed by some places that looked like Mars! There were lots of hairpin bends and after a coffee stop I hadn’t locked the fridge door properly so on one turn we lost the whole of the contents all over the floor of Priscilla! We arrived in Teruel which looked a really nice town and it was market day. After a few stops to ask directions we found the Repsol garage that sells the LPG to learn we only needed 4 Euro’s worth to fill up!!!!!!!!!! That means we have only used 4 Euro’s worth in 6 days! So we are very pleased and won’t be in such a rush to fill up next time (the gauges we have are not that reliable and we feel we have to fill up at every opportunity as not many garages that sell it). We did some shopping and I stood outside a McDonalds to quickly use the free Wi-Fi then set off to Albarracin our stop for the night on a campsite. This road was very flat after Teruel-thought we were back on Australian roads! Arrived in Albarracin about 3pm and got our pitch for the night (lots of different nationalities here in their motorhomes including lots of Brits-we are parked next to a very friendly English couple from Croydon) and took our bikes out for the first time and cycled into town. It is another stunning old village clinging to a hill with castle walls all around. We walked up as high as we could (again!) then slowly made our way through the maze of streets and could not believe some of these buildings were still standing after all these years as some looked like they would fall over at any time! We hadn’t realised that the whole of this area we have been in is well known for dinosaur fossils and prehistoric drawings - even Morella (where we were last night) even dates back to prehistoric times! It had started to rain (first time in 3 weeks!) so the cycle back to the campsite was fun! And hard as was uphill! Settled into Priscilla for another cosy night in.
Morning-thank you David another cuppa in bed xxx
