Left the car park by 8am! After the best sleep for wild camping! We filled up with fuel(good job we did as it's now 50 cents more per litre in Switzerland!) Stopped briefly to watch some rock climbers but it was too cold to hang around. Headed for the Swiss boarder and would you believe there was no one there! Not a sole in site (Switzerland isn't in the EU so thought we would have to show documents- but obviously not!) so we couldn't find out about the sticker for the toll roads ! Stopped for a coffee and what a shock three times as much as we have been paying (now Perth prices!) had a look in a shop and yes must be in Switzerland as it sold watches, cuckoo clocks, Toblerone and army knives!
Many hairpin bends with steep drops but awesome views. Still haven't seen Steve McQueen escaping on his motorbike! Could not believe how they were growing grapes on such steep slopes - they even had to have a pulley system to pull the crates of grapes up to the road! One town we went through we thought we had gone the wrong way as it was just like a non vehicle pedestrian mall!! We stuck to all the non toll roads and they are all very good condition and fine. Stopped on the side of the road for lunch - what a view of the Swiss chalets and listening to the many cow bells. Arrived at campsite Grassi in Frutigen at 3pm - long drive today. Walked into the town 1km away and got some walk routes and info from the tourist office and checked out prices in the local supermarket (not too bad) and at the checkout a customer was in full local dress even had a feather in his hat. He loved being asked to have his photo taken - think we have seen every cliche of Switzerland in one day!
