Driving through France -Sat

Sat 20th Sept 2014

Lots of rain and another big thunderstorm in the night but woke to bright sunshine and very wet grass. After fresh bead (pan) being delivered to our door we left Cayrols and headed for Aurillac. Straight away we got stuck behind a large slow vehicle then went the wrong way through the big town of Aurillac.! But the sun was out so all good. We passed the towns of Murat and St Flour - again looked beautiful but must push on. Stopped for a coffee and think we were treated with sarcasm as they thought we were English! Very scenic drive and passed some ski towns and went through long tunnels. Stopped by the side of the road and made lunch. On then a smaller road across to Le Puy En Velay. This town was very busy as there must have been a festival going on as hundred of people were dressed in Medieval costumes - it looked like a very interesting town but didn't have the time to look for a parking spot. On then to our next campsite at St Sigolene. Beautiful location amongst lush forest and very green grass pitches next to a river which must have trout in it as there are a few fisherman staying here. Got chatting to a very nice German couple who told us about 6 deaths at a campsite, only this week, just south of us due to flash flooding!!!!!!! All the amenities are first class here - run by a Dutch lady - they really do know how to run a campsite. Have decided to stay 2 nights as there is a nice 10km walk we can do tomorrow as well as catch up on some washing and hopefully Skyping. Had a great meal of French duck with fresh Brussels - unbelievable value from Lidls - 1.75 euro!!!! For the meat! A short storm when we arrived and think more later tonight.
