Zipping around

To 15th September 2019
Could you believe as soon as we posted the last blog our friends in Fishguard Andrea and Wayne got in touch to say - stop off in Fishguard to stay with us and that Andrea will drive us to New Quay the next day to get our car. How lucky are we to meet such good people.

Heaven - back in The Fishguard Arms and they’ve got the fire going (they must think we’re cold!)

We had a tour of Andrea’s lovely consultation rooms then went back to their place.

Wayne cooked us up a feast. It was great to have some home cooked food.

It was great to catch up with these people and I’m sure we will be friends for life now.

Andrea drove us to some gorgeous view points between Fishguard and Newport. Yes Wayne, we know we didn’t get the bus back to walk the bit we missed!!!

Andrea drove us to New Quay to where we had left our car. As expected Peter made us welcome  and invited us all in for tea and great discussions. We are glad we introduced Andrea to Peter. Instead of putting the tent up Peter and his partner Julie insisted we stay in the house with them and cooked us a delicious meal.  It was the first time we had met Julie and it felt like we had known her for years. And now we have more friends for life we are sure.

Bella -Peter and Julie’s rescue dog 💕

After breakfast with Peter and Julie we drove about 3 hours back to Snowdonia to Bethesda to Zip World!

We started off on the 35 mile per hour zip line for a practice before a 15min drive up the quarry face to the big one. 1.5km long and 100mph zip line! They harness you all in on this red mattress before lowering it to leave you suspended ready for the off!!!

Well! What an experience! David loved it but I thought I was going to die when the wind caught me! But so glad we have done this.

We just love the Welsh language.

Our accommodation for the Zip line -above this pub. Cheap, clean and everything that we needed.

We chose the right time to do the zip line and not walk as driving back towards the Coast Path the weather was bad.

We decided to leave the car in a free car park in Haverfordwest as it is central to get back to the Coast Path and then get a bus back when we have finished. We checked into The County Hotel in Haverfordwest and find it funny how a curry is served with half rice and chips!!!!

The next day we realised we had left our walking poles in Andreas car so we had to drive back to Fishguard to pick them up before leaving the car in the free car park and then got a bus from Haverfordwest to St David’s and another bus then to Whitesands where we had finished our walk. The sun is still shining here so hopefully a few days of good weather for us.

The RNLI at St Justinian.

Can you see Jo on the path?

So many great bays and flatter walking than usual.

Porth Clias.

Unbelievable rock formation you would think this was drawn on! Amazing how the earth has changed over millions of years. Sometimes we forget how long this land has been developing.

Walked a good few miles today and was lucky to find the perfect flat wild camp spot right next to a beach.

David cooked up our dinner in the stove -happy days. Got into the tent early and slept very well.

Next morning David picked up all the rubbish and plastic off the beach while I found my artistic way of maybe generating an income for us while we are away-orders can be taken!!!!!!!!😂

The lovely village of Solva. This is where John Phillips is from and we learnt some stories about him in the local pub and can’t believe he will be here in a few weeks time from Australia.

The pub in Solva.

Left Solva and headed for Newgale.

David didn’t want his photo taken here as we had about 2 minutes to get around before the tide came in.

Another amazing rock formation but did we really have time to take this photo!

No! We had to take our boots off and just made it in time.

Got to Newgale campsite and set the tent up both exhausted after not many miles but a hard up and down day in the sun. We were so disappointed in the local pub as we were going to have a meal there but it was very unfriendly so ended up having the food we were carrying. Had lovely showers and we were in bed very early but only to be woken at 6am by kids playing-that’s why we enjoy wild camping.

Sunday today so Jo must have her roast dinner so we headed for Nolton Haven. We passed an old coal colliery on the way.

Happy wife roast dinner happy life in the Mariners Inn and it was a good one.

We were joined by Helen and her dog Peggy who had come out without her bag or money! So we bought her a drink and a roast dinner on the promise she would pay it forward.

Walking out of Nolton Haven-there are such big tides here.

Coming into Broad Haven we walked passed the Teletubby house which has been on Grand Design.

We stocked up on supplies at a supermarket and headed for Little Haven.

What a gorgeous village Little Haven was.

Carried on walking out to find a wild camp spot.

Found another great spot and got sorted for the night.

Before getting into the tent 🏕 we walked up the road to a look out point and bench and were joined by Howard and Alison. A lovely couple from Bristol. Chatted for ages then Alison said “have you read The Salt Path?” OMG! They were the second couple who had asked us the same thing today! And asked us for a photo as we are the Aussie’s on page 187!
Had a warm and quiet night except for the wind in the tent! From the roast dinner!
