Goodbye Wales

16th September to 19th September

Woke up to drizzling rain and a few slugs !

Packed away the tent (can you see where it was?) ponchos on for the first time in a while.

Started walking towards Marloes and it didn’t take long for the rain to stop. Ponchos and legs off. Had a coffee stop on a beach and FaceTimed family and friends.

Arrived at St Brides. A huge castle has been turned into a fancy spa hotel.

A church at St Brides.

We had a great flat walk into Marloes as we needed a campsite shower. Unfortunately the campsite was now closed for the winter!! Went to The Lobster Pot Inn for a few beers and something to eat. We asked the locals advice on where to stay but not luck. In the end we asked the landlady Caroline if we could put the tent up out the back and she kindly agreed. Still no shower though!

A good nights sleep at The Lobster Pot Inn.

This morning we decided that we would finish the walk here and get the bus to get the car and drive to Tenby as we realised we wouldn’t be able to walk there in time before the weather changed. And to be honest we were both knackered and ready to stop. So we managed 138 miles (223kms) on The Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

We are so glad that we got to Tenby while the weather was sunny. David had been here before but had forgotten how lovey it was.

The tide certainly goes out a long way.

This old Lifeboat Station which is now a house was featured on Grand Design-we must watch it again.

Had an ice cream walking along the beach 🏖

We really needed a shower by now and everywhere has full or too expensive, except this one, The Royal Lion - knocked them down from £98 to £80. But £30 would have been more realistic!

At least it had a magnificent view which was better viewing than the TV which didn’t even work! They did shout us a couple of drinks in the bar later to make up for that.

That night we went to a great boutique brewery for a meal. We had such a laugh when we went on TripAdvisor to view the reviews of The Royal Lion-oh how we wished we had looked at this first!!!!!!

Could be on the Mediterranean here. We then drove to the Gower Peninsula.

We found a great spot at Oxwich Bay but again the water was to cold for a swim.

We then drove to a b&b in Upper Killay (we had checked the reviews!)

A lovey breakfast in the morning and now we are going to head to Devon.

We couldn’t leave Wales without calling into see Barry and Barry Island. This is famous for one of our favourite TV shows Gavin & Stacey.

Barry was actually really lovely so much nicer than we thought it would be. It was “Lush”.

Over the Severn Bridge into England. So it’s goodbye Wales. In summary we spent nearly 3 months in Wales and walked a total of 450miles (725kms). Apart from the start of Offas Dyke the weather has been perfect for us. We have seen some wonderful sites and met some incredible people who were always willing to help us out. All the Welsh people we have met have been so friendly. We have truly enjoyed our time in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and we will miss it. Off to Devon now.
