Great drive to Gourdon

Fri 21st Feb 2014

Great night’s sleep was had by all. Jess & I got up and stood near to the main farmhouse so we could get internet to update the blog for you all out there reading! While David did lots of jobs, filling up with water, emptying the toilet and using the tools available in the workshop for cutting holes in a metal plate to make a hazard board that we need to go on the back of the bikes for when we drive into Spain. On this farm they make their own organic bread and sell to locals and online, we watched the lady make it and the room was so hot and humid and smelt sooo good - it was so worthwhile as we got two different loaves and later had them for lunch and the bread (du pain) was delicious. The sun was out and it was such a better drive than yesterday - no big trucks-great roads-no rain - we were all so much better for it! We left Raix and drove around the city of Angouleme and onto Periguex. Passed this town we stopped for diesel (unmanned self-serve) we did something wrong and it would not except our card so we took off to get it somewhere else (David has no patience’s for dealing with machine’s!) Onto Sarlat then stopped at La Douze where we made lunch in Priscilla. We then drove into The Dordogne and the scenery got even better, Chateaux’s and views everywhere, Abby’s, houses built into rock faces - more of what we had expected of France. We stopped at Le Grand Roc in Laugerie which was amazing. Headed South to Gourdon (now in Midi Pyrenees) what a stunning village! It was on top of a hill and we parked up for the night at Aire De Foirail (Aires are normally free with most facilities) cannot believe we had a view of this awesome village from our free overnight stop! It was still quite early (5ish) so we walked into town and up the hill and around the village which was so lovely (narrow streets, very old, rustic, pretty). From high on the hill we looked down and could see Priscilla parked up. Found a bar called La Promenade and had a few drinks (free Wi-Fi!!!) got chatting to Nora who gave us a quick French lesson!!! Then off to La P’Tit Bouchon for our first French meal - it was great, E50 including drinks for the 3 of us. Back to Priscilla to plan tomorrow’s route and a nice cuppa tea. Bon Nuit xxxxxxx
