Lake District

We are now on the final leg of  our trip with Jess on a 3 hour drive from Edinburgh to The Lake District.

We stopped off at Roslyn Chapel. Was just in time for an introductory talk about the chapels history. Visitors numbers have increased dramatically since Dan Browns book The Davinci Code.

The weather got worse on the drive to Kendal.

Another lovely Airbnb. And the following morning the weather gods were good to us again.

View from our bedroom.

We drove to Ambleside on Lake Windermere to do a what we thought was an easy 6 mile walk.

It started off ok.

We then realised we had to climb up and over this hill! 477m high!

About half way to the top.

It was a well defined path and the views got better and better.

We came across this tree trunk that people had banged coins into.

View from the bottom.

View from the top.

On the way down the other side we stopped at a pub for a well earned drink.

We swapped hats.

Absolutely loved the walk even though it was hard at times and the scenery was wonderful.

Nearly back at the car.

Drove back into Kendal and had a great meal in Masons.

This was in our accommodation-very appropriate as the next day the weather had changed again.

The ponchos came out! First time since Wales.

But we still kept smiling.

This was another walk up to The Cathedral Caves in a disused slate quarry.

We took the short ferry across Lake Windermere.

We found Windermere very busy and dread to think what it’s like during the summer. We couldn’t even get a parking space so we headed back to Kendal. Very impressed with the scenery here though and will have to definitely come back! More to explore.

A big drive from Kendal to Harpenden today but being it’s Sunday we stopped off in Little Brington for a roast. Jo’s happy but we have had better.

Back at our “home” in Harpenden and was good to see Mike and Liz again. Gave Jess a trim so she looks even more beautiful for her return to Oz tomorrow.

Had to get up early to get our Jess to Harpenden train station for her flight from Gatwick to Perth. Our small Christmas tree is now being tended by Mike and Liz.

Jess off on the train but we will see her soon as we have booked our flights! What an incredible 3 weeks we have had with our Jess and what an amazing job she did organising all our accommodation and sightseeing. Thank you 😊
