Edinburgh for New Year

After a long 6 hour drive from The Isle of Skye we dropped our luggage at our Airbnb accommodation in the centre of Edinburgh. We had been in touch with Audrey an old work mate of Jo’s from The Luton Airport days on security. She had organised us some free parking where she worked at the New Parliament House. She works in the control room and is lucky that her dogs can go to work with her.

Willow and Olive.

Our loft apartment in Edinburgh for 3 nights.

We arrived the night before new year and we were lucky enough to see the torch procession through Edinburgh. There were 20,000 torch bearers and bagpipe bands in between. The atmosphere was amazing. It was probably made up of more tourists than locals these days but was great fun.

The quirky Old town Edinburgh.

There was lots of entertainment going on in the city even Christmas markets.

Why? In such cold weather here in Scotland would men wear kilts!

Jess and Jo loved all the fabrics in this shop.

New Years Eve we paid a visit to Edinburgh Castle and were again very lucky to have a clear day.

In The Great Hall.

All the fireworks in place around the castle ready for tonight’s show.

The Soldier's Dogs graveyard.

The great hall.

Had to try the scones in the castle tea rooms whilst David was looking around the war museum.

The old jail house.

New Years Eve we walked up Calton Hill with a couple of others! 😂

We watched the fireworks go off at midnight from the castle.

They started off really well but as it was a very still evening the smoke disrupted the view.

It was nice to wake up on New Years Day to clear skies and clear heads and no hangovers! We FaceTimed family and friends before we headed out.

We went on our own walking tour of other parts of Edinburgh.

Past below the castle.

Arrived in the beautiful Dean Village.

The Wellington monument.

The home of Robert Louis Stevenson.

While Jess went off to the movies to see the latest Star Wars film we went to The Black Bull Inn where Jo had her first Scottish whiskey.

We also had a game of pool. We had a meal out that night when Jess came out of the movies. We have been very impressed with Edinburgh with too much to see so we will have to come back!
