Spain 🇪🇸 L’Estartit

May 8th-14th

A morning video call with Australia while we were packing for Spain.

Lunch in The Odd Fellows Harpenden before Liz kindly took us to Luton Airport-I worked there 32 years ago and didn’t recognise one part of it! It’s massive.

Ryan Air flight to Girona. It was wet and very cold waiting on the tarmac.

Jane picked us up from the airport and it was like we had seen her yesterday. She settled us in our apartment which she had stocked up with all the essentials and lots of extras too! 🍺 🍷

At last some warm weather.

A walk around the markets.

The Church square. I remember calling Mum and Dad from the telephone box which was here when I worked here approx 39 years ago!

Illes Medes

The harbour has a lot of upgrading work going on. It is a world class driving area and a busy fishing port. There were large boats from all over the world.

David’s version of Tapas!

Jane made us a lovely meal and we spent the night chatting.

Spent the day in the garden. I got rid of this cactus the spikes were lethal. One has gone through my thumb nail! David started weeding the lawn before Eduard (Janes BIL) delivered the ladder.

David on the shed roof trimming away all the overhang from next door. He also cut down all the climber on the left.

The garden of the apartments at Janes.

A walk to Staint Martin D’Empurius. It was a very still calm day all along the sea front.

Loads of beautiful bays.

The ruins.

The main square of Staint Martin. We had coffee beer and calamari while the church bells were ringing. It’s very busy here on Sundays and packed in the summer.

In the local supermarket you can buy wine by the litre from the barrel. Look at the price!

That evening Jane came down to our apartment and I dyed her hair. Typical Jane didn’t even mind having her photo taken.

David re cementing the roof tiles on the shed.

Can’t believe how solid these roofs are with 3 layers of tiles this one is 50 years old.

Janes sister Theresa and husband Eduard had us for a meal at their new 3 storey town house in the village of Ullà. A great night talking about the problems of the world-Brexit and the more frightening Catalan Independence situation. The lamb tangine was amazing.

The next morning Theresa and Eduard picked us up early and took us into Girona for the day. This was a school party of children in the old markets being told about different seafood.

Horse meat!!! Apparently it’s delicious!

In Girona La Temps de Flors was on and everywhere there where massive flower displays and in these trousers were bougainvillea.

Everywhere you go in Catalonia people fly the Independence flag and the yellow ribbons for the political prisoners who have been locked up for so far 2 years (possibly 30!) for daring to vote for Catalan Independence.

These pictures are of the political prisoners and those in exile. Bottom right is a friend of Theresa's!  People should look on u-tube to witness the vilance that went on at the polling booths as a lot of the mainstream media won’t televise it. Eduard bought us a yellow ribbon badge rah but advised us not to wear them in southern Spain.

Zoom in and see the Pyrenees covered in snow.

This is the old surround of the stain glass window at Girona Cathedral

This was Eduards home until he was 7.

In the Plaza Major

On the way home we stopped in Colomers for a Menu Del Dia - €11 each for a 3 course meal -it was excellent. Jane joined us on her lunch break. That evening we packed up and Jane spent the evening with us in our apartment for our last evening in L’Estartit. Enjoyed our brief stay in L’Estartit again and we got spoilt as usual. Hopefully we were helpful and hope we can come back soon.
