A rest in Okehampton with Ali

Sat 5th to Thurs 10th Sept 2015

Before our great friend Ali picked us up David and I had another quick look around Dartmouth- gorgeous day.
Found this hotel on the front
It still had the bells that were rung from each room

Ali picked us up from Dartmouth and drove us back to her flat in Okehampton. This is her view from her lounge. Through the trees is a lovely park.
She had to go to work till 2am in the morning! So she gave up her bed and slept on the sofa bed. What great great friends we have.
Morning David. Lovely to be in a bed again. Will be hard getting back in the tent as very very cold at night now!
Ali in her kitchen
She still smokes! Nothing has changed!!!
Shopping and breakfast in Waitrose

Walked back to Ali's flat with the shopping-she went back to work
Walked to the local park and watched the locals bowl
Then sat in the sun and read our books. David caught up with the news in The Daily Mail newspaper.

Face timed our good friends in Oz-Con & Lorraine. Con has been very ill and is waiting a bone marrow transplant. It was great to see and hear him looking and sounding so well and positive. Later we Face Timed our Jess in Peru she had just finished The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu-so proud of her. Think David and I will do that next.
Ali deciding what to wear
The Two Bridges in Yelveton-Princeton

Ali's sister Sue joined us for lunch
We drove across the beautiful Dartmoor in full sun

Best ham hock egg and chips

Ali David & I hired bikes and did The Granite Way from Okehampton to Lydford and back. 18miles
It was such good fun.
Over viaducts and bridges and right on the edge of the moor.
Stopped at The Bearslake Inn for coffee
But David had a beer!

Lydford Castle

Lydford Castle. We had lunch in The Castle Inn next door.

That night we drove over to Ali's sister's beautiful home for dinner. Susan & husband Peter have horses a riding school pigs cats and dogs.
We had a wonderful roast pork meal followed by banana pudding toffee sauce and clotted cream. Yum.
A great night
Bertie & Elsa-such loveable fun dogs

Me with Peter and Bertie
Think Ali needs some sun!!

David & I took the bus to Brentor and climbed up to the church.

What fantastic views from up here and a glorious day.
Brentor Church. After we got the bus back to Okehampton we did some shopping and got organised as we are getting back on the path tomorrow. Ali will take us to Exeter then we will get a bus to Kingswear where we left off. Will be hard getting back in that tent!! Only about 160 miles to go!!! We will see Ali again soon.
