Giralda y Catedral, & walking tour -Mon

Mon 14th July 2014
The Germans next door arrived back at 3am- sounded very happy with their win. A lot hotter today and walked through the park into the city and went up the Torre del Oro (naval museum) picture from outside is on yesterday's blog. Good views of re river from the top and nice to see old paintings of what Sevilla used to look like. We then walked to the Cathedral of Sevilla and it's tower (Giralda) and it was the dirt time we have had to queue for anything! And 10mins wasn't too bad (in the shade) and well worth it. It is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest floor area of a cathedral in the world. I am sure the South American Indians will be pleased that all their gold and silver went to good use inside this cathedral. We then walked up the tower with sloping incline instead to steps to a viewing area and bell tower with great views of the city. Found a nice restaurant as by now we were very hungry and very hot and needed to sit for a while. The restaurant had misters which was needed! We then walked all through the little back streets to find a bike shop (with the help Of the tourist info place) to get some replacement inner tubes. Then walked all the way back to the square for 6 o'clock (and was still 39 degrees!) Did a 2 hour free walking tour and was pleased we didn't go over the same ground. Mainly covered the Jewish quarter and learnt lots of new things about Sevilla. We will now have to pay more attention to - Carmen (who lived here and worked in the Tobacco factory) and the barber of Seville /Don Quijote/Don Juan as they were inspired and created from this area. Gave the tour guide 20 Euro and finished in a bar having some beers. Long hot walk back to Priscilla - cold showers then fell into bed on damp towels as it was still 36 at 11pm!!! Managed to sleep great as was so worn out.
