Caldas de Monchique - Fri

Fri 25th July 2014
Great nights sleep - very quiet except for a car going past at 3am! which is a bit of a worry when we were the only ones up here! Woken by cows bells this morning and all the clouds were still around us. David went out to explore and came back with a new friend! The farmer and his 7 dogs! He invited him in Priscilla for a coffee and I was still in bed!!!!!! It was so funny and we couldn't get rid of him! He went off at one stage but then came back with a bouquet of herbs for me! It was great to watch the dogs mustering up the cows.
We then headed off down the mountain a bit to a campsite In Caldas de Monchique. Views to die for and so clean and well looked after and very small. Each pitch even has it's own table. Even the chemical toilet to empty your cassette was on manicured lawn and bleached! See pic of me sitting on it.  French owners. Parked up and made lunch while catching up with the blog/internet. It was hot and at about 3pm we decided to walk the track through the woods down onto the road into town (village?) it was in a valley and is an old spa town and we walked past the factory bottling the water. We past a thermal hotel with a beautiful outdoor pool in manicured gardens ( we think Europeans come here for health and well being). Many non Portuguese live here. Walked up a track and found a very pretty restaurant for a beer or two. Thought we would come back another day for a meal until we were ripped off and had to pay 3 euro each for the beers. Walked back towards the campsite and stopped at a roadside restaurant on the hillside for a meal. Fantastic views. Great meal of tuna pork and salad shared. Walked back along the road and the back through the forest to Priscilla. Much needed lovely hot showers and hair washes.
