Getting some wheels and Easter

Packed up all our stuff after 15 nights at Chapelthorne

Peter cooked us a big fry up brunch before we left. It was the best fried bread. We really enjoyed this experience and will go back I’m sure.

We then headed off with Ali to Dorset towards WestBay.

Arrived at David and Sheila’s and yes he still gives the best blow jobs in town at age 70!

Said goodbye to Ali and she headed home for Whitwell. That first night they cooked us a delicious Greek meal and Abby stayed the night as she likes our company.

Tizzy
Ella- deaf and blind bless her

Went with Sheila to take her granddaughter Abby to Weymouth for her theory driving test.

Weymouth Harbour

This is in WestBay where Abby works

Thanks to Heath (David and Sheila’s son in law) he did us a great deal on a car. A 2011 Vauxhall Corsa diesel £1500. Shame the fuel is exactly twice the price then at home in Oz. The insurance was £500 for a year!

Another lovely meal good old English toad in the hole.

We drove our new car to the village of Charmouth to Louise’s salon (David and Sheila’s daughter) to have a much needed colour and cut. Harry Louise’s son has taken up hairdressing too. While I was having it done David went for a walk and had a beer in the pub.

On our last night in WestBay all the family came to The George for a great meal.

Left Dorset and headed for Rushden to see our friend Nick. David let me drive the whole way!

Ali has given us a sat nav that’s out of date so we are using a map as well.

Nicks dog Charlie

We drove over to Nick’s brother Sam’s house in Higham Ferrers then walked to The Queens Head for a beer or two! This area was known for its shoe making. The movie and stage show Kinky Boots was based in this area.

In the evening we walked, with Nick’s partner Linda, into the town of Rushden to the Hopmaster then to The Curry Garden for a great Indian meal.

This was in the middle of a roundabout!

The drive from Rushden down the M1 was very busy Northbound. Lots of traffic as it’s Easter weekend and school holidays

5 mins from the M1 turn off we were in glorious countryside.

Arrived at Ali’s over 55’s flat in Whitwell. Just a one bedroom place but she’s got it gorgeous.

Just around the corner in St Paul’s Warden is Ali’s neice Lauren and her 2 kids Alfie and Ellie.

They are renovating this home and are doing a great job. The garden is extremely long and backs onto a field.

We all had a walk around St Paul’s Warden

A walled garden and David pushing Ellie on her bike. The weather was perfect.

This is The Bury where The Queen Mother was born

Alfie and Boo

Ali looked very glamorous in her dress and joggers!!! She is so very funny and has now gone 3 weeks without a cigarette. We really really hope she continues not smoking.

In the garden of The Strathmore

Whitwell’s only pub The Bull

The village of Whitwell is very very quaint.

The Watercress beds. I remember coming here as a child.

Ali cooked breakfast and David made the fried bread.

Another walk

The Strathmore

Ellie pained my toenails and then did my makeup! No picture I’m afraid!

Off to Hitchwood to see the bluebells that have just come out.

The Sue Ryder house Stagenhoe where David’s mum used to sing when in the choir and sang to the residents .This house used to be owned by Sullivan as in Gilbert and Sullivan.

It’s been a few years since Ali and I were on a seesaw together!

Yes Ali still has big boobs!

After a great 2 nights in Whitwell we drove back to Harpenden. Mick and Liz’s garden has stared being landscaped and is going to look amazing.

Easter Sunday their 3 daughters and partners come for the day and I helped Liz cook a delicious roast dinner.

Beautiful weather again - needed sunscreen!

After our meal we all had a long walk to The Elephant and Castle in Amwell.

Mick and Liz drove us to Ayot St Lawrence where George Bernard Shaw lived.

The Old Church

The new church

Shaw’s Corner

After walking around the stunning village we had a beer in the gardens of The Brocket Arms 14th century. The weather has been glorious and the days are getting longer. But bad weather is on its way 😔Off to Christchurch Hampshire in the morning to stay with Val and Malcolm.
