Portugal or Switzerland ? - Wed

Wed 20th Aug 2014
Set off on our scenic drive to our next destination - a campsite near Satao in a village called Casfreires. Went through lots more small villages and we just love all the characters we see and always wave to them and make them smile. Drove through arable land-farming and lots of vineyards and fruit trees. I am concentrating so much on navigating I think I miss the best photos. Drove up into the mountains and one of the roads I was convinced was a steep footpath! Glad that the roads were not busy as it would have made it impossible! At one stage a guy in a van had to reverse a fair way to let us pass. Ended up climbing to about 2000m and then to get down the other side had to follow The Vale Do Glaciario (a glacial pass)which was absolutely spectacular although the reinforced netting on the side, to prevent rock falls, was a bit intimidating! The scenery with the alpine trees and style of houses gave us the impression we were in The Alps. After some difficulty and with asking directions (one guy at a petrol station was so helpful and I took his photo as he reminded us of a friend) we managed to friend the very pretty campsite Quinta Chave Grande in the woods in Casfreires. Greeted with a welcome drink by Jorge and his family who run the campsite. Lovely pool which I am sure we will use tomorrow and have signed up for the BBQ tomorrow night too. Cooked some chicken pasta and salad for dinner while watching newcomers struggle to  put their tent up!
