Off to Lisbon -Thurs

Thurs 7th Aug 2014
Not a bad sleep considering where we had parked. Managed to get on the road by 8am to head for Lisbon. So we were driving from one side of the country to the other only 235 km's! Great roads but lots of big trucks with no patience and overtaking on unbelievable parts of the road ! Stopped at a supermarket in Montenor-o-Novo and then had coffee and cream tarts in Priscilla. When we fuelled up we asked advise on which way was the best route into Lisbon. We were told the N10 was better than the A2 toll road - in hindsight we should have taken the toll road as it wouldn't have taken us through loads of busy towns (like Setubal) and some of which weren't signposted well! After a few wrong turns of one moment in a busy town to next in beautiful mountainous countryside we could see the massive city of Lisbon and the huge bridge looming in front of us. It really is quite stressful at times! We approached the toll to get over the bridge and there were 18 lanes !!!!!! None of which looked suitable so took pot luck and got through. It was a spectacular sight going over looking down over the vast port with cruise shop too. We finally found the city campsite (after a few attempts) a huge site that I think we will need our bikes just to use the ablution blocks! It is within a huge park so very green. Felt exhausted when we arrived so just relaxed. Will explore the city of Lisbon tomorrow. Bus stop is right outside the campsite.
