Slept well and left the campsite on a bus into Lisbon 1.80 Euro each one way. It took us around the houses for about 30mins. An old local gentleman helped us out with the map and pointed us in the right direction as to what to see. Arrived and was a bit blown away at the size ! Normally we have been walking around cities but decided this was too big. A quarter of Portugal's population live here so chose the double decker yellow bus hop on hop off for 48hrs which takes in 4 different routes and cost only 25Euro each. First we had coffee and the local Belem custard tarts before we did 2 of the routes (each took 2 hours) on the upper deck of the open top bus. We saw it all! New old and very old and some very very rough & ugly! We saw the longest bridge in Europe and this could be a really beautiful city if more of the old was restored and not to have built the new! We got off the bus after about 4 hours! A great rest for my knee, then after seeing a great viewpoint up at Edward VII park we walked down and then got on a funicular railway up to Bairro Alto. Loads of restaurants and street markets up there. Wondered down more to the port front and got on a ferry over to the other side of The Rio Tejo and found a small restaurant for a local meal of cod and dorada fish with tomato garlic and potatoes. The Dorada was good as always but the cod wasn't the best. We said you wouldn't want to stand still for long in Lisbon as you would end up getting tagged with graffiti - it was everywhere! They were proud of 3 buildings with graffiti "art" supposed to be the best in the world! But most is just tagging. Came back over on the ferry with the city and bridge(we had come over yesterday) all lit up. Wouldn't want to be in this city much later at night than we were (11pm) but there were plenty of police about. We may be wrong but that's how we felt. A lot of very poor areas but we know that doesn't make all people bad. Back to the city campsite on the bus then tried to upload pictures to the blog at the wifi point but gave up after an hour! Bed at 2am!
