Off to the coast - Mon

Mon 16th June 2014
Packed up Priscilla and got on the road at 10.30am. Drove through the Las Alpujarras region. Windy and up and down and a very scenic drive. Past lots of areas where the rocks where sliding down onto the roads- apart from that very good roads. We then headed south for the coast as we want to make the most of it before it gets too busy and too hot (July & Aug) when we will go back to Cortijo Puerto el Peral (the hotel). Started going past vast areas full of greenhouses (not sure what's being grown). Went through some very narrow streets in the town of Berja (bit hairy!) It was great to see the sea again as we drove along the Coasta Tropical towards Motril. We found a campsite Camping Playa De Poniente and set up camp by the sea.
After lunch and a little snooze we went for a walk to explore the area. Well! This place doesn't have much going for it so we have decided to move on in the morning! Seems a bit neglected - huge beach but not that appealing. Spanish holidays start next week and am sure the place will liven up but at the moment it's like a ghost town and it's next to a large industrial port. After dinner and looking at the map we watched some more episodes of Breaking Bad (now on series 5). Very still and overcast tonight.

Packing up at the Orgiva campsite

Hundreds of greenhouses

Berja

Berja - Glad there was nothing coming the other way!

The sea in the distance - edged with greenhouses

The new highway being built - we took the old coast road.

The campsite in Motril - me getting the awning out

Motril

Motril - doesn't look too bad in this pic but really! Don't bother going!

Motril - loading up the beach for the summer

Spanish runner beans - yum. Cooked Hetty style - fried with onion and garlic.
