A walk to Murren

Lovely to have Jess crawl into bed with me this morning. She prepared the veggies for the soup while I had a shower and hair wash. We packed our picnic and set off on our walk to Lautenbrunnen to catch the cable car up to Grutschalp. First we stopped at the Air Time cafe to use the wifi and book paragliding for the 3 of us! Oh what a shame! The wind wasn't right and won't be for the next few days! We spoke to Maddy (the only girl Base Jumper we have met - from Melbourne) and she had just broken her arm on ....... Would you believe a child's swing!!! Up on the cable car we went and what a great view again from the top. We walked then to Mürren along the cliff top above the Lautenbrunnen valley. Jess had done this walk before in March this year and she showed us photos when it was in the snow (see pic). The picture with David pointing across the valley is where we had had our picnic lunch stop last week when we walked from Wengernalp. Had our picnic then when we arrived in Mürren we showed Jess the Base Jump ledge we had found before and would u believe Steve & Liam were there doing their last jump (no we're not stalking them!) before they leave for Bulgaria tomorrow. We stood on the edge again and watched as they jumped !!!! Jess couldn't believe what she was seeing either!!!!!! We were going to get the cable car down but decided to walk! It was a very steep descent but pretty. Very glad we did it even though it was a tough walk. Jess did very well and had no problem keeping up with us hardened walkers!!!! By the time we arrived back at Priscilla it was dark and we had been walking for 7 hours!!!! Exhausted we all were. Cooked a meal then we all fell into bed- another great day. 

Back to The Lautenbrunnen Valley

We all had a bit if a sleep in then packed up Priscilla. When we checked out the lovely owners gave us a huge bar of Lindt chocolate! How nice was that! We said we may see them next year. We set off then towards Interlaken and stopped on the way by lake Thunesee then again at Lidl's to stock up. Drove past Wilderswil and back into the Lautenbrunnen Valley. Arrived at Camping Breithorn in Stechelberg again. Jess has been to Lautenbrunnen twice before and really wanted to come again and we didn't mind as lots more to see and do and it is so beautiful. After lunch Jess went off to see The Trummelbach Falls which we had been very impressed with last week (she was too). While I prepared dinner (lamb fillets with garlic pancetta broccoli shallot and cream pasta) David & Jess went on a bike ride. The evening was spent watching the second Hunger Games movie.   

Lake Oeschinensee - Tues

Jess was fidgeting all night! She should have slept after that walk. She then booked her flight from Zurich on Saturday to Australia via London. The weather forecast wasn't looking too bad so we decided to drive to Kandersteg and go up the cable car and walk to Lake Oeschinensee. Kept our pitch at Camping Grassi in Frutigen by leaving our table and chairs. Good drive and parked ok for 4CHF for the day. Got a return ticket on the cable car for 26CHF each return and went up in fairly windy conditions (was warned it would go slow!) it was a great walk through forests and very rocky outcrops. When we arrived at Lake Oeschinensee it was the bluest blue water we have ever seen. We had our picnic lunch there (homemade soup bread cheese & fruit) and loved looking at all the tree sculptures. Walked back to the cable car via a different route which was just as scenic. Arrived back at Priscilla and drove back to Frutigen (which driving there saved us about $80 if we had taken the train and it was only 20 mins up the road!) The sun was out so made the most of it reading in the sun before cooking our meal (chicken with Hetty's apple & goats cheese) was delicious. Another great day in Switzerland. 

With our Jess again - Mon

The rain eased off last night and we got to and from the train station picking Jess up without getting wet. By the time we walked back to Priscilla and caught up with all the news from Oktoberfest it was 1am. Had a great sleep and a bit of a sleep in - but oh my goodness / the state of Priscilla!!! After breakfast we walked into town to the bank and get some fresh bead to go with our homemade soup lunch. Set off in the afternoon on a 3 hour walk that took us by the river and over the swing bridge then through a village down the other side back to Frutigen. We were very lucky with the weather again an it is great to have our Jess back with us. Sat out in the sun before a BBQ dinner.
